DURBAN, (CAJ News) – IT was a compelling weekend of Betway Premiership action with crucial points gained and dropped across the table as the race for the title, top eight, and survival intensified.
Saturday’s fixtures produced a mix of narrow wins and hard-fought draws.
Sekhukhune United edged Magesi FC 1-0 thanks to a late strike, a result that reignites their push for a top eight finish.
Golden Arrows also secured a vital 1-0 victory over Durban City, strengthening their position in the MTN8 race.
Elsewhere, Chippa United and Polokwane City played out a 1-1 draw, sharing the spoils in a balanced encounter, while Siwelele FC were held 1-1 by a resilient AmaZulu FC side reduced to ten men—highlighting defensive discipline under pressure.
On Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend, beating TS Galaxy 2-0.
Chiefs were clinical in front of goal and compact at the back, underlining their growing momentum in the title chase.
Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants and Orbit College FC played to a goalless draw, with both sides showing defensive solidity but lacking cutting edge.
At the summit, Mamelodi Sundowns remain top with a slender lead over Orlando Pirates, who dropped points earlier in the weekend.
The title race is now finely poised, with every match carrying significant weight.
Chiefs’ victory strengthens their grip on third place and keeps faint title hopes alive, while AmaZulu and Sekhukhune continue to battle for continental qualification spots.
Golden Arrows’ win lifts them into the top eight conversation, intensifying competition for mid-table positions where margins are increasingly tight.
At the opposite end, draws for Chippa United and Marumo Gallants do little to ease relegation fears.
With only a handful of points separating teams in the lower half, every dropped point could prove costly in the fight for survival.
Defensively, AmaZulu’s resilience with ten men stood out, while Sekhukhune and Golden Arrows both produced disciplined displays to grind out narrow victories.
In attack, Kaizer Chiefs showed efficiency, converting chances and controlling the tempo.
As the season approaches its decisive phase, the battle lines are clearly drawn: a fierce title duel at the top, a congested race for the top eight, and an increasingly tense struggle to avoid the drop.
