MOGADISHU, (CAJ News) – SOMALIA has strengthened its bilateral cooperation with Türkiye (formerly Turkey) in the field of electronic communications.
This has been formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by National Communications Authority (NCA) of Somalia and Turkey’s Information Technologies and Communications Authority (abbreviated BTK in Turkish).
Under the agreement signed at the BTK headquarters in Ankara late Tuesday, NCA and BTK will cooperate in satellite communications regulation, cyber security, spectrum management, broadband infrastructure deployment, the security and resilience of telecommunications networks and services, internet regulation and regulatory aspects of electronic communications.
Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, Director General of NCA, and Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, BTK Board Chairman and President, signed the agreement.
“Through this partnership, we aim to promote the exchange of knowledge, regulatory experience, and best practices, thereby supporting resilient, forward-looking communications sectors in both Türkiye and Somalia,” Karagözoğlu.
Sheikh underlined the pact’s importance.
“This agreement strengthens institutional collaboration between NCA and BTK and supports capacity building, knowledge exchange, and improved regulatory frameworks, thereby contributing to the growth and modernisation of Somalia’s communications sector,” he said.
The partnership builds on the solid relations between the two countries.
Somalia’s electronic communications sector is rated one of the most advanced in Africa, characterised by a history of private-sector-led growth.
It is a primary driver of the national economy, contributing around 11 percent to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the East African country.
