LUSAKA, (CAJ News) – THE partnership between the government and the private sector to support Zambia’s participation in the United Nations AI for Good – Robotics for Good Youth Challenge is hailed as a milestone in advancing youth-driven innovation and positioning the country as an emerging technology and innovation hub in Southern Africa.

The Ministry of Technology and Science as well as Liquid Intelligent Technologies and E-Mark Zambia announced the partnership ahead of the challenge set for Geneva, Switzerland between April and July.

National finals are set for the end of March.

Zambia will compete against over 50 participating nations globally.

“The country’s objective is not mere attendance, but global competitiveness and excellence with a clear ambition to return with tangible success,” said Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science.

This partnership is said to underscore a shared national commitment to empowering young Zambians to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics to address real-world challenges, with a particular focus on food security, the global theme for the 2026 challenge.

Mutati commended Liquid Intelligent Technologies for its continued contribution to Zambia’s digital transformation, particularly its commitment to connecting over 1 300 schools to the internet.

He lauded E-Mark Zambia for nurturing young talent and fostering a culture of innovation to enhance national development.

The minister highlighted the dedication of the young innovators to apply AI and robotics to solving pressing challenges such as food security.

Mwendamo Mazaba, Liquid Intelligent Technologies Acting Chief Executive Officer, announced a contribution of K250 000 (US$13 146), aimed at supporting Zambia’s journey to the global competition.

“The partnership reflects Liquid’s belief in Zambia’s youth, the power of collaboration and the role of technology in accelerating national development and positioning Zambia competitively on the global stage,” Mazaba stated.

The partners believe through collaboration, mentorship and strategic investment, Zambia is poised to make a competitive showing in Geneva.
