JOHANNESBUR, (CAJ News) – HYUNDAI Automotive South Africa has ended 2025 as the fourth largest automotive brand in the country, selling 36 409 new vehicles, a 19% increase year-on-year, according to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA).
The South African market, featuring nearly 60 active vehicle brands last year, was marked by unprecedented competition, including aggressive price-led strategies from new entrants.
Despite this, Hyundai’s strong performance indicates that local motorists continue to favour established brands offering proven quality, long-term reliability, and excellent aftersales service.
Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, said: “To finish the year as the fourth largest brand amid intense pricing pressure reflects strong consumer confidence in our products, exceptional aftersales support, and our locally tailored business model.”
Industry observers note that South African buyers are increasingly prioritising value-for-money over headline prices.
Hyundai’s approach focuses on the total cost of ownership, including servicing, parts availability, resale value, and long-term reliability, rather than solely offering the lowest purchase price.
Anderson highlighted that Hyundai’s success stems from a clear business strategy and a dependable product lineup that resonates with local consumers.
“Our 2026 strategy is centred on protecting the consumer’s long-term value through disciplined pricing, safety, reliable servicing, and strong resale value,” he said.
The company also closed the year strongly, with December 2025 sales reaching 3 068 units.
Analysts suggest that Hyundai’s combination of trusted engineering, consistent quality, and attentive aftersales support were key factors in securing its position among South Africa’s top automotive brands.
Hyundai’s performance in 2025 underscores the importance of reliability, consumer confidence, and value-for-money in a highly competitive market, setting a benchmark for both domestic and international competitors.
