JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE South African Communist Party (SACP) has strongly condemned the Donald Trump administration’s military intervention in Venezuela, describing it as a blatant violation of international law.

In a statement released to CAJ News Africa over weekend, the SACP expressed shock at reports that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were forcibly abducted by U.S. forces, calling the act “criminal” and “brazen.”

The party described the incursion as the culmination of repeated threats and hostile rhetoric by the US President Trump toward Venezuela.

“This act constitutes a flagrant violation of United Nations Articles 1 and 2, which uphold the sovereignty and legal equality of states and prohibit the use of force,” the SACP said.

It warned that the invasion threatens international peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean and endangers millions of lives.

The SACP accused the Trump administration of pursuing imperialist objectives aimed at regime change to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, particularly oil and minerals.

The party reaffirmed its support for Venezuela’s right to defend its sovereignty, territory, and people. It also endorsed Caracas’s call for international solidarity, urging governments and citizens across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the world to oppose what it described as “criminal imperialist aggression.”

The SACP’s statement underscores growing international concern over the escalating U.S. intervention in Venezuela, which analysts warn could spark widespread regional instability.
