More international flights set for Cape Town

CAPE TOWN, (CAJ News) – SOME international airlines are to introduce or expand services to Cape Town, in a development set to enhance tourism in the South African city.

The official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape, confirmed the plans.

Proflight Zambia will add Livingstone as a new stopover on the Lusaka – Cape Town service, in both directions, from December 1 operating three times a week, thereby enhancing connectivity to Zambia for travellers.

Qatar Airways will add two additional frequencies to their Doha–Cape Town schedule from mid-December 2024 to mid-January 2025, operating a total of 12 flights a week.

The inaugural Norse Atlantic Airways service between London Gatwick and Cape Town commenced on October 28.

This seasonal service will operate three times a week until the end of April 2025.

Wesgro, reflecting on the recently-concluded International Air Transport Association (IATA) summer season (April-October 2024), disclosed the the domestic terminal at Cape Town International Airport handled just over 4,1 million passengers.

This reflects a 3-percent year-on-year growth rate, compared to the same period in 2023.

The international terminal processed slightly under 1,52 million passengers, reaching an 8 percent year-on-year growth rate.

The month of October saw a slight decline of 1 percent for the domestic terminal, compared to October 2023, with over 644 000 two-way passengers passing through the terminal.

The international terminal, however, continues to show strong and consistent growth, with almost 251 000 passengers processed and a growth rate of 6 percent recorded for October.
