JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE Betway Premiership title race is set for a major shake-up tonight as Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United square off in a top-of-the-table clash at the iconic FNB Stadium.
With defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns currently leading the 16-team log on 14 points from six matches, both Amakhosi and Babina Noko find themselves in striking distance with 13 points apiece and a game in hand.
Victory for either side would see them leapfrog The Brazilians into first place, intensifying what already promises to be one of the most competitive seasons in recent years.
Neither Chiefs nor Sekhukhune have tasted defeat this campaign, adding further intrigue to what is being billed as an early title decider.
While a draw would keep them level with Sundowns, both sides will be eyeing nothing less than maximum points in their quest to unsettle the Tshwane giants’ dominance of South African football.
For Chiefs, a win would underline their resurgence under new management, with fans desperate for silverware after a trophy drought stretching back nearly a decade.
Their blend of experienced campaigners and exciting young talent has brought renewed optimism to Naturena.
Sekhukhune, on the other hand, continue to punch above their weight since earning promotion in 2021.
Babina Noko’s steady rise has made them a genuine force in the Premiership, and toppling Chiefs at Soccer City would mark another milestone in their remarkable journey.
Beyond the Soweto showdown, Tuesday’s fixture list includes Chippa United hosting Orbit College in Gqeberha and Durban City welcoming Siwelele in Durban.
The action continues on Wednesday with AmaZulu battling Stellenbosch in Durban, Marumo Gallants hosting champions Sundowns in Bloemfontein, Polokwane City up against Golden Arrows in Limpopo, and Richards Bay facing TS Galaxy on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.
The eagerly anticipated clash between Orlando Pirates and Magesi FC has been postponed, denying Buccaneers fans an opportunity to see their side return to action midweek.
As the season enters full swing, the battle for supremacy is already shaping into a three-way contest between Sundowns, Chiefs and Sekhukhune—promising fans a thrilling spectacle throughout the 2025/26 campaign.
