ACCRA, (CAJ News) – FORMER Ghana president, Nana Akufo-Addo, is wary of the prevailing geopolitical tensions dividing the African continent.
He was delivering the keynote address at the Strategic Meeting of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s African Team and its political partners in Accra.
Speaking on geopolitical changes and the effect on the African continent and international cooperation, Akufo-Addo highlighted the risks and opportunities in the multipolar global order, where he noted influence is diffused among the United States, China, Russia, European Union, India and the expanding BRICS alliance.
“With such competition among global powers raging, African nations must elude attempts to turn the continent into an arena of rivalries, where our sovereignty and development aspirations are compromised and subordinated to external interests by recognising the need to be strategic and united to be able to diversify partnerships, negotiate better terms and accelerate our own economic integration and transformation agenda via tools like the African Continental Free Trade Area.”
The event in Accra preceded the annual meeting of all the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Country Representatives in Africa and the Board of the Foundation from Berlin, Germany.
The event followed a meeting with the former Speaker of the German Parliament and Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Prof. Norbert Lammert and other senior officials from the KAS Headquarters in Accra.
