LUANDA, (CAJ News) – ANGOLA has in the last month suffered the highest number of cyber attacks as Africa maintains an unenviable position as the most heavily-attacked region globally.
This is according to the Global Threat Intelligence Report for August 2025, just released by Check Point Research.
Regionally, Africa reported the highest average volume of cyber attacks, at 3 239 weekly per organisation while Asia-Pacific had 2 877 and Latin America experienced 2 865 attacks weekly.
Of the four African countries included in the report, the oil and mineral-rich Angola suffered the most attacks at 3 648 per organisation per week, followed by Kenya at 3 448, Nigeria at 3 394 and South Africa with 2 148.
Education remains the most attacked industry with 4 178 weekly incidents.
“August’s threat data makes one thing clear. Cyberattacks are intensifying in both volume and impact,” said Lorna Hardie, Regional Director: Africa, Check Point Software Technologies.
The official said Africa’s top spot as the most attacked region in the world was cause for alarm.
“We as a continent need to be doing far more to raise cybersecurity awareness and implement the necessary measures to improve cyber resilience across the board.”
Education’s ongoing digitisation makes it a prime target.
Omer Dembinsky, Data Research Manager at Check Point Research, said, “August’s threat data makes one thing clear. Cyberattacks are intensifying in both volume and impact.”
Dembinsky explained that education, telecoms and agriculture were prime targets because they were essential, while attackers knew disruption there created maximum leverage.
