NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – THE Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) is undergoing a restructuring to remain relevant in the digital economy.
In its new format, it would also be capacitated to provide health-related services, which according to the government would promote diversification of postal services and contribute to national public health policies.
The restructuring, under the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Post4Health project, will support the parastatal leverage opportunities in the digital economy, including e-commerce.
Stephen Isaboke, the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary, provided the update when he hosted a delegation from the union at the Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy Headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday.
“The Government is currently restructuring the PCK to effectively compete in an increasingly digital and multi-operator environment,” Isaboke noted after the meeting.
He appreciated UPU as a strategic partner in the restructuring.
“The government will remain active in the affairs of the union going forward,” the official assured the delegation.
“We are all in the same ecosystem, working for the same government. We need to deliver on our mandate and make our country great,” he said.
Isaboke resumed his role on Wednesday.
PCK is facing financial challenges, attributed to a decline in traditional mail services.
The company’s reported losses stood at Sh6,23 billion (US$4,8 million) in the financial year ended June 30, 2023.
