LUSAKA, (CAJ News) – ZAMBIA’S launch of the first 5G Penta Band Indoor Solution in Africa marks a milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey.
MTN Zambia launched the solution in Lusaka earlier this week.
The solution is designed to address indoor connectivity challenges and deliver enhanced network coverage, faster speeds, lower latency and improved quality of service across office buildings, shopping malls, hospitals, hotels and residential facilities.
Thomas Ngoma, MTN Zambia Chief Technology Officer, said the innovation aligns with the government’s digital transformation agenda under the 8th National Development Plan and will help drive economic growth, smart infrastructure and innovation across sectors.
“This groundbreaking solution reinforces MTN Zambia’s commitment to investing in next-generation technologies that enable a modern connected life for all,” he said at the launch.
Ngoma acknowledged the partnership with Huawei Technologies that culminated in the launch.
Huawei provided the hardware infrastructure, multi-frequency combining technologies and technical engineering.
Also speaking at the event, Percy Chinyama, Smart Zambia Institute National Coordinator, said the organisation’s support for the launch underscored the government’s commitment to next-generation connectivity.
Smart Zambia is a division under the Office of the President mandated to coordinate and implement electronic government services.
MTN Zambia was the first mobile operator to introduce 5G services in Zambia in 2022.
President Hakainde Hichilema was the guest of honour at that launch.
