CAPE TOWN, (CAJ News) – NAMIBIA, Zimbabwe and the South African city of Cape Town have launched a joint partnership aimed at positioning Southern Africa as a competitive and unified tourism hub.
The strategic three-destination tourism partnership, anchored on digital marketing, was launched at the recently concluded Africa Travel Indaba in Durban.
The three destinations are members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
According to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), the collaboration will leverage joint campaigns and digital platforms to boost visibility in international markets while showcasing the region’s diverse tourism offerings.
Speaking in Durban, Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Tourism said the partnership aligns with the country’s engagement and re-engagement policy.
The initiative also supports the “Unlimited Africa Pledge” endorsed by President Cyril Ramaphosa when he officially opened the tourism indaba.
Ramaphosa highlighted continental cooperation as key to driving tourism, investment, innovation, and inclusive economic transformation.
The annual three-day indaba was held under the theme “Shaping Africa’s Tomorrow, Through Connection Today”.
Digitalisation featured prominently, with emphasis on innovation, smart technologies, and seamless travel systems.
Zimbabwe said the future of tourism in Africa depends on digital connectivity, efficient border management, and improved visitor experiences.
The country is implementing reforms through an online border management system, electronic visas, and e-gates at major ports of entry.
