LAGOS, (CAJ News) – GLOBAL digital infrastructure leader Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) has announced plans to open a new $22 million data centre in Lagos, Nigeria — its first purpose-built facility in West Africa.
The new site, known as LG3, forms part of a broader $100 million investment strategy aimed at transforming Africa’s digital ecosystem over the next two years. Scheduled to open in Q1 2026, the facility will provide vital connectivity infrastructure for Nigerian enterprises and attract global businesses to one of Africa’s fastest-growing tech hubs.
LG3 will also introduce Equinix Fabric to the Lagos metro, allowing local companies to securely link with cloud providers, partners, and global networks across Equinix’s more than 270 data centers worldwide.
“LG3 marks a significant milestone in our commitment to bridging Africa’s digital divide,” said Wole Abu, Managing Director for West Africa at Equinix.
“We’re not just building data centers; we’re fostering innovation and laying the groundwork for an interconnected African economy.”
Cedarview Managing Director Olawale Owoeye added that the facility will provide “a robust and resilient platform” enabling businesses to scale and deliver high-performance digital solutions across Africa.
Lagos, recognized among the Global Top 100 Startup Ecosystems, continues to cement its role as a regional tech powerhouse. With Nigeria’s young, tech-savvy population and strategic position as a subsea cable hub, the city is central to Africa’s growing digital economy.
Aslıhan Güreşcier, Equinix Vice President for EMEA Growth & Emerging Markets, said the Lagos expansion underscores the company’s “commitment to powering Africa’s digital transformation with sustainable, world-class infrastructure.”
Equinix entered Africa in 2022 and now operates in Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and South Africa, supporting the continent’s drive toward greater connectivity and digital inclusion.
