HARARE, (CAJ News) – ZIMBABWE has suffered the biggest drop in the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) Men’s World Ranking following a disappointing outing in the World Cup qualifiers.
According to the rankings released on Thursday morning, Zimbabwe tumbled nine places down the rankings, leaving them at 125th globally.
The Warriors had a forgettable September, losing to Benin and Rwanda in the qualifiers.
This is the latest blow to the country’s football fortunes as they also suffer the ignominy of playing their home matches outside the country since local stadiums have in recent years been banned from hosting international matches.
Zimbabwe are also emerging from a FIFA ban after government interference in the sport.
Meanwhile, Spain are back at number one, surpassing world champions Argentina.
Argentina dropped to third after France leaped to second.
Spain has not occupied the top spot since June 2014. Argentina had occupied the position since April 2023.
England and Portugal complete the top five.
The next edition of the rankings will be published on October 23.
