ABUJA, (CAJ News) – NO less than 11 people have died from flashfloods triggered by heavy rain in northeast Nigeria.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has recorded the fatalities in the Yola South local government area of Adamawa state.

Heave rain has caused fatalities, displacement and damage.

As of July 27, IFRC reports 20 injuries, and displacement of 2 000 people, of which 150 are sheltering in two camps.

“Several homes and roads have been submerged,” said an official.

On Monday, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in central and eastern Nigeria, while Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to bring moderate rain across the country and isolated heavy rain in the western and northern parts of the country.

Apart from floods, Adamawa is hit by insurgency perpetrated by Islamist groups.
