Google Pledges $37M, Opens AI Hub in Ghana

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) — GOOGLE has announced $37 million in cumulative funding to advance artificial intelligence across Africa, including a new AI Community Center in Accra, Ghana.

The investment is aimed at supporting AI research, education, language tools, and digital infrastructure.

Key initiatives include a $25 million AI Collaborative for Food Security, $3 million for African language research through Masakhane, and support for over 100 AI-driven startups.

Google is also offering 100,000 Career Certificate scholarships in Ghana and backing AI education in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa.

“Our goal is to support innovation that reflects Africa’s unique strengths and challenges,” said Google SVP James Manyika.
