JOHANNESBURG, 2nd JUNE 2025, –/ Centre for African Journalists, (CAJ) News Africa –
SOUTH Africa’s best mobile network, MTN, is redefining what it means to live a modern connected life with the launch of another groundbreaking pilot: the Shesh@5G Motor Bike SIM Delivery Service. Now, customers in select areas of Johannesburg can receive their Shesh@5G SIM cards and Home internet connectivity packages within just two hours, a bold commitment to seamless, instant customer service.
This groundbreaking initiative follows the recently announced Africa’s first Smartphone For All initiative where over 1.2 million customers will receive 4G smartphones just for R99.
“Commenting on the launch of this initiative, Tania Ladopoulou, General Manager for Online and Telesales at MTN South Africa, says, “This is another ambition to bring seamless 5G Home connectivity to customers. As South Africa’s best and strong 5G network, we are focused on ensuring that our Home customers enjoy the best possible experience with the country’s most reliable and fastest 5G coverage.”
“No more waiting 24 to 48 hours for delivery. No more standing in queues,” continues Ladopoulou. “With this new service, we are putting our customers first by delivering convenience, speed, and connection right to their doorstep.”
The Shesh@5G Motor Bike SIM Delivery Service works simply and efficiently: customers place an order through MTN’s digital platforms, a scooter arrives at their location with their Shesh@5G SIM card or Home connectivity package, and customers can conveniently self-RICA using the new MTN app. Once activated, customers are online and connected within minutes.
“This is not just about faster service, it’s about inclusion,” said Ladopoulou. “We believe that everyone deserves a modern connected life, and they shouldn’t have to wait for it. Whether you’re connecting for the first time or upgrading to Shesh@5G, MTN is putting the power of instant connectivity in your hands.”
The pilot, which is currently rolling out in select areas of Johannesburg, is designed to bring lightning-fast access to mobile and home internet connectivity, making digital inclusion faster and easier than ever before.
Following the success of the Johannesburg rollout, MTN plans to scale the service nationwide ensuring that no South African is left behind in the digital revolution.
“MTN is committed to bold innovation that improves lives,” Ladopoulou added. “The Shesh@5G Motor Bike SIM delivery service is just the beginning of our journey to deliver a seamless, modern, connected life for all.”
