JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE first delegation to be deployed to Africa by United States president, Donald Trump, is to embark on its mission from Thursday.

The Department of State, late on Tuesday, confirmed the mission, coinciding with the appointment of Massad Boulos as Senior Advisor for Africa.

Boulos and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Corina Sanders, will travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda, starting Thursday.

“During the trip, Senior Advisor Boulos and the team will meet with Heads of State and business leaders to advance efforts for durable peace in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and to promote US private sector investment in the region,” the Department of State noted.

The Lebanese-born Boulos also serves as Senior Advisor to the President on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs.

The mission comes at a time Trump’s administration is seen as hostile to African nations, during his second reign that began in January this year.

The delegation to DRC is however crucial for both countries, with America exploring mineral partnerships with the endowed but crisis-torn central African country.
