JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE Nissan Navara Warrior is embarking on a historic challenge, an official Guinness World Records attempt in one of South Africa’s most extreme landscapes.

A convoy of five Warriors, led by Nissan and TopGear, is taking on the formidable Namaqualand Eco Route in the Northern Cape.

Covering over 1 000km of punishing off-road terrain, from rugged mountains to the roaring Gariep River, this expedition is to push the limits of endurance, performance, and off-road capability as it aims to set a world record for the longest off-road journey in a single country.

Maciej Klenkiewicz, Nissan South Africa and Independent Markets Africa Managing Director, noted that last year, Nissan Africa conceived Daring Africa, an eight-country, 8 000km odyssey linking our continental LCV manufacturing hub in Rosslyn with its passenger vehicle facility in Cairo, Egypt.

“Setting an off-road world record seemed like the logical next step for our African Navara,” Klenkiewicz said.

Bernie Quinn, Premcar Chief Executive Officer, is excited at the Guinness World Records attempt.

Pemcar originally designed, engineered and tested the Navara Warrior in Australia for Australians, as the world’s toughest Warrior for the world’s most uncompromising drivers.

“There is no better way to prove the new South African edition’s worth than by setting a world record on its new home ground,” Quinn said.

Based on the 600km Namaqualand Eco route, the intrepid team in their Warriors have spent the past four days cutting a more than 1 000 km route over barren mountains and through rocky valleys, along the Gariep river, South Africa’s longest waterway.
