JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – VOLODYMYR Zelenskyy is buoyant that Europe is on his side in the war with Russia while the United States wants an end to the war.
These are two sides of the war.
Dominant countries in Europe are the United Kingdom (UK) and France. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer embraced Zelenskyy like two boys from the same school.
Britain shoved £2 billion pounds in assistance for Ukraine to sustain the war. French President, Emmanuel Macron, also welcomed Zelenskyy with a remarkable embrace and committed another €2billion for the war. Around these two countries are leaders of other European Union (EU) countries such as Germany, Poland and Spain who committed various amounts, pieces of war artillery and jets.
Then there are murmurs of support from other European Union countries but with little financial muscle.
Europe is nestling Ukraine while the US does not. Europeans have to make decisions about their future in the face of Russia, the “enemy” created to justify formation of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
At the heart of the dispute and war is NATO. Russia does not want NATO at its borders (doorsteps). Ukraine is bringing NATO to the Russian border, brewing the conflict.
The map of Europe clearly indicates what the dispute is about. Russia is the largest country in the world. In the west it is bordered by Finland, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, the Baltic Sea and Turkey. Finland and Sweden were not members of NATO until the start of this war and posed no risk to Russia.
Of these countries Ukraine is significant, boring into the lower belly of Russia but a previous alley. NATO there poses a significant threat to Russia.
Spain, France, Britain and Germany are further away. One wonders why the British and French want to draw Ukraine to their side, if not to use it as a launch pad to weaken Russia.
What is their interest in Ukraine? It is absolute provocation.
The United States which created NATO at the end of the Second World War is aware that this is an unwinnable war and could conflagrate into a World War. This Ukraine-Russia war should not have started had NATO listened to Russia’s complaints.
Instead, the propaganda, generated by imbecilic former US President Joe Biden, was to target the person of Putin as a “dictator”, who must be fought by allies.
Ukraine gains respect from European leaders as the vanguard fighting Putin. They want to ward off Putin through Ukrainian victory. Europe is afraid that if Russia wins, then Europe is threatened.
These are kid games to which Donald Trump is not prepared to splash billions of the US dollars for an unnecessary war. If Trump was in power when the war broke out, the conflict would not have started.
The meeting of European leaders at the Elysee palace in Paris on 27 March 2025, led by French President Macron and British Prime Minister Starmer committed to aiding Ukraine.
Dubbed the ‘Coalition of the Willing’, these two colonialist countries want to build a strong Ukrainian army of about one million soldiers and to send troops into the war.
That is the beginning of a third world war, if it happens. Other European countries did not agree to these imperialists’ plans.
There was no unanimity among European leaders. Zelensky himself had more questions than answers. Incoming German Chancellor Friedrich Merz found no solace in these puerile outlandish poker configurations.
Europe realized a key country in the equation was South Africa, currently under pressure from the USA. European leaders flew to South Africa for the Eighth Summit of SA-EU Strategic Partnership, to give assurance of support and trade pacts to ensure that South Africa is on their side.
The EU Council President, Antonio Luis Santos da Costa and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen landed in Cape Town for a meeting on 13 March 2025 to put South Africa at peace.
South is the only African country with a Strategic partnership Agreement with the European Union. But don’t be fooled. Europe cannot win a war on Russia without the support of South Africa and Africa as a whole.
South Africa has influence on the African continent, and hosts the alternative sea route from Suez Canal, apart from strategic minerals and other raw materials.
The war can end by declaring that Ukraine will be neutral from NATO by creating a buffer zone or disbanding NATO altogether.
