POLOKWANE, (CAJ News) – WITH almost eight games before the Betway premiership curtains come down, it has become dog-eat-dog for the bottom eight clubs fighting to escape relegation.
Already Magesi Football Club, who appeared to be potential candidates for demotion at the end of the season have turned on the power to beat the highly fancied Richards Bay 1-0 at Seshego Stadium, Polokwane on Tuesday to jump a place up the ladder.
Forget other relegation premiership candidates that include Chippa United, Cape Town City, Golden Arrows, Richards Bay, SuperSport United, Marumo Gallants and Royal AmaZulu, the Dikwena tsa Meetse as Magesi FC is affectionately known are banking their hopes on acrobatic Zimbabwean goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, who has been outstanding between the sticks.
While Magesi FC’s defence has been porous, Chipezeze stood shoulders above the rest with his heroic saves that kept the Limpopo based club marching despite some serious relegation threats.
To date, Chipezeze, who happens to be the captain for Dikwena tsa Meetse was voted man-of-the match four times, a feat which confirms the Magesi FC goalkeeper wants it more than anyone else.
It has to be seen whether the slender 1-0 victory over Richards Bay was a fluke or stern message to other rivals when Magesi FC host Golden Arrows at Seshego Stadium on Saturday.
Elsewhere on Saturday, struggling Cape Town City will clash with another relegation threatened Marumo Gallants while the unpredictable Chippa United hosts high riding Polokwane City in Gqebera in a do-or-die encounter.
The following day, second positioned, Orlando Pirates will host the league pacesetters and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.
The Sunday clash will be the main match for the Betway premiership games nationwide.
Sunday games end with Richards Bay entertaining Kaizer Chiefs while onform Sekhukhune United will battle out with Stellenbosch FC in Polokwane.
