JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE OMODA C5 is nearing the 17 000-unit sales milestone in South Africa, underscoring its growing popularity in one of the country’s most competitive vehicle segments.

OMODA & JAECOO South Africa reports that the compact crossover has recorded 16 948 local sales since its launch in April 2023.

The manufacturer attributes the performance to a combination of competitive pricing, distinctive styling, advanced technology and fuel-efficient powertrains.

The momentum has been further boosted by a series of updates introduced over the past 13 months, including the launch of the C5 X Series, revised Street+ and Style X derivatives and the recently introduced C5 SHS hybrid.

The latest addition to the range has already generated strong demand.

According to the company, the first allocation of C5 SHS hybrid models has been fully accounted for following its launch in April, highlighting growing consumer interest in hybrid vehicles and affordable electrified mobility solutions.

The C5 SHS combines a turbocharged 1,5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, producing a combined output of 165 kW and 295 Nm of torque.

It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7,9 seconds while achieving a fuel consumption figure of 4,9 litres per 100 kilometres and carbon dioxide emissions of 111 g/km under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

The hybrid model is capable of travelling more than 1 000 kilometres on a single tank of fuel.

Standard features include dual 12,3-inch displays, wireless smartphone connectivity, a 360-degree camera, advanced driver-assistance systems and seven airbags.

Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for iCAUR South Africa and OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, said the C5’s sustained performance reflected the company’s commitment to continuously improving the model.

“The updates introduced over the past 13 months, together with the early response to the C5 SHS, show that customers are responding to a range that keeps evolving while remaining strongly positioned on value,” Gahagan said.

He noted that the upgrades had delivered improvements in styling, transmission options, fuel efficiency, suspension, practicality and specification levels across the range.

The company believes the expanded line-up provides South African motorists with greater choice than at any stage since the model’s launch.

The OMODA C5 range is currently priced from R339 900 for the Street+ derivative, while the flagship SHS hybrid retails from R469 900.
