GABORONE, (CAJ News) – BOTSWANA has announced three days of mourning following the death of its third president, Festus Mogae.
He died in Gaborone at the age of 86 after a period of illness.
President Duma Boko announced his death on Friday.
“As a nation, we grieve the loss of a remarkable servant leader of the people whose commitment to Botswana remained unwavering throughout his life.”
Mogae, born in Serowe, served as president from 1998 to 2008 after succeeding the late Quett Masire.
He won a number of local and international awards for his leadership of the Southern African nation.
