NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – NEC Africa has appointed Phillip Nganga as its Regional Manager for East Africa, placing him at the helm of efforts to accelerate growth across one of the continent’s rapidly expanding technology markets.

Nganga will have overall responsibility for the performance and sustainable growth of the business across the region. He brings almost 15 years of experience with NEC, having joined the organisation in May 2012.

The appointment reflects NEC Africa’s strategy of strengthening local leadership as it positions its African operations for the next phase of expansion.

“East Africa has tremendous potential, and we believe the time is right to take the business to the next level,” Nganga said.

“Our focus will be on expanding our customer base, strengthening our partnerships and broadening our portfolio of solutions, while continuing to deliver the trusted and reliable service NEC is known for.”

Nganga said a customer-focused approach would underpin his strategy, with the company seeking to understand customers’ businesses and long-term ambitions before recommending technology solutions.

He also sees NEC Africa playing a growing role in helping customers and partners understand emerging technologies and prepare for future demands.

The opportunities span digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise technology and energy, which are expected to remain key areas of investment as East African economies modernise.

Governments, financial institutions, telecommunications companies and increasingly manufacturing, oil and gas businesses are driving demand for technology to support economic growth and digital transformation.

Nganga identified Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Rwanda as markets offering significant potential for deeper engagement. Expanding NEC Africa’s local workforce and partner network will be central to that strategy.

“Visibility is particularly important for us,” he said. “We want to strengthen our presence across East Africa and ensure that customers experience not only the quality of our solutions, but the long-term support and engagement that has always been part of the NEC relationship.”

Gary Munro, NEC Africa Vice-President for African Operations, said the appointment formed part of the company’s strategy to accelerate regional growth while developing African leadership.

“Phillip has grown substantially during his time with NEC, and this appointment recognises the contribution he has already made while giving him the opportunity to take the next step in his management journey,” Munro said.

The appointment follows William Hunter’s move into a chief operating officer role, where his technical and project management expertise will strengthen NEC Africa’s delivery capabilities as the company prepares for a major East African project.

Nganga’s ambition is to make NEC Africa the partner of choice in the eastern part of the continent, combining the strength of the NEC brand with deeper local engagement and a broader solutions portfolio.
