JUBA, (CAJ News) – MTN South Sudan has bolstered its commitment to advancing digital inclusion, supporting education and empowering communities through technology.
This is through the unveiling of the Rumbek Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Hub, hailed as a transformative digital learning and innovation centre designed to equip young people with the skills, knowledge and opportunities needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Rumbek town is the capital of Lakes State, northwest of the country.
The facility will provide access to digital learning resources, ICT training, innovation opportunities and capacity-building programmes aimed at preparing youth for participation in the digital economy.
“This ICT Hub is more than a building. It is a gateway to opportunity,” Mapula Bodibe, MTN South Sudan Chief Executive Officer, said at the launch.
She said that by providing access to technology and digital skills, the company was investing in the future of the youth of Lakes State and helping to build a generation capable of driving innovation, entrepreneurship and socio-economic development.
“Innovation does not happen in isolation. It thrives where people come together to learn, share ideas and create solutions to real challenges,” Bodibe said.
“Through this ICT Hub, we are creating a space where knowledge can be exchanged, talents can be nurtured and future innovators can be empowered to shape the development of Lakes State and South Sudan as a whole.”
Ateny Wek Ateny, Minister of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services, presided over the launch.
“The establishment of the ICT Hub in Rumbek is an important step in advancing South Sudan’s digital transformation agenda,” he said.
The minister said the government aimed to create spaces where young people could access technology, develop digital and artificial intelligence skills and become active participants in the digital economy.
“Government cannot achieve this alone, which is why partnerships with institutions such as MTN South Sudan are critical as we expand ICT hubs, improve connectivity in underserved areas and bring digital opportunities closer to our people,” Ateny said.
The Rumbek ICT Hub is expected to serve students, young entrepreneurs, job seekers and community members by providing a collaborative environment where individuals can learn, develop new skills and explore innovative solutions to local challenges.
MTN South Sudan is the largest operator, with 4,35 million users out of a national total of 7,63 million subscribers.
