JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE Betway Premiership delivered another weekend of twists, with Mamelodi Sundowns strengthening their grip at the summit, Kaizer Chiefs maintaining their unbeaten start and several clubs discovering that early-season points are already becoming precious.

Sundowns were the biggest winners, beating Golden Arrows 2-1 in Durban to move onto 16 points from six matches.

Sundowns have now won four consecutive league games and opened a three-point gap over the champions and second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have played one match fewer.

For Sundowns, the victory was more than three points.

It demonstrated their ability to win even when not at their fluent best.

Teboho Mokoena’s late strike settled a tense contest and underlined why the former champions remain the team to beat.

Golden Arrows, meanwhile, remain ninth on six points.

The defeat will sting, but their competitive showing against Sundowns suggests they are capable of troubling stronger opponents as the campaign develops.

Kaizer Chiefs also produced an important result, edging Siwelele 3-2 at Dobsonville Stadium. Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba and Faiz Abrahams found the net as Amakhosi moved to 11 points and retained third place.

The victory matters because Chiefs had drawn their previous two league matches.

Winning again keeps them within touching distance of the leading pair and confirms that Fernando Da Cruz’s side is becoming a genuine early-season contender.

Siwelele, however, remain winless after five matches, with only two points, leaving them 14th and facing an increasingly urgent fight for consistency.

Friday’s KwaZulu-Natal derby belonged to AmaZulu, who defeated Richards Bay 2-1. The result lifted Usuthu to fourth with 10 points, while Richards Bay remained 13th on three.

Marumo Gallants and Polokwane City had already shared a 2-2 draw on Friday, leaving Gallants still searching for their first victory.

At the bottom, Kruger United have one point, while Siwelele and Gallants have two apiece. Above them, Richards Bay and Chippa are also struggling.
