Shanghai Cooperation Organisation 2026 Summit

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE 26th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was held on 31 August and 1 September 2026 in the city of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The summit was hosted by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.

Kyrgyzstan was a founding member of the Shanghai Five in 1996, when five countries – China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan – formed this formidable organisation.

In June 2001, Uzbekistan joined, and the organisation changed its name to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation with the signing of the Declaration of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

In June 2017, India and Pakistan joined, followed by Iran in July 2023 and Belarus in July 2024.

Starting with our own from Africa, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé of Togo, the Kyrgyz President, Sadyr Japarov, hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith, Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân and Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister Hussein Issa.

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres, SCO Secretary-General Sergei Lebedev, CSTO Secretary-General Taalatbek Masadykov, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Bakytzhan Sagintaev, and Secretary-General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia Kairat Sarybay also attended.

This is where the world is, and Iran is there.

Africans notice that the countries attending the summit represent $80 trillion of world GDP and almost half of the world’s population.

Africans also notice that the British, French, Japanese and Americans are not there. This is a major shift in the world’s political thrust and a new power trajectory.

Whatever they discussed, Donald Trump was scoffed at as a gun-toting stooge of Israel.

US voters must pinch themselves for choosing a president who thinks white Americans are the greatest people in the world, the same mentality which Adolf Hitler had.

African citizens expect American voters to punish a president who boasts of kidnapping Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the killing of Ali Khamenei and more than 40 Iranian leaders in Iran, and ordering sanctions on the International Criminal Court while keeping many countries, such as Zimbabwe, Cuba, Russia and many others, under sanctions.

US voters must see the wrong in the killing of Palestinians. American voters must remove leaders who disgrace their nation.

It is failure to see these wrongs that the USA is not at this summit.

This summit shows that America is marginalised. The thought by Donald Trump that he is helping the world by bombing Iran is puerile.

Which world is the USA talking about?

US politicians are always agitated.

The likes of Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio are immature and dangerous for announcing a D-Day against Iran on 24 August 2026 and launching a massive financial offensive called Operation Economic Outcast.

Africans are warning you. On 12 and 13 September 2026, the main group of these leaders at the SCO summit will meet at the BRICS+ summit in New Delhi, India, where they will be joined by South Africa, Brazil, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Egypt and others. The UN Secretary-General will be there to bless them.

The power of the debt-ridden, tariff-hiking USA is diminished. The US creates the enemy and drives the world to follow suit.

Iran has never attacked any other country but is pointed to as a terrorist state.

Europe was dragged into viewing Russia as an enemy, and they did. But Russia is a neighbouring country of Europe, and so is Iran to the GCC countries.

Africa is worried by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries that agree with the American posture of regarding Iran as an enemy, yet Iran is standing up for Arab rights, Palestinian rights and the right to a free Palestine.

Africans are warning GCC countries to remove US bases from their countries. The hope is that American voters will vote out rogue leaders to restore American dignity.
