MBABANE, (CAJ News) – ESWATINI is strengthening cooperation with Taiwan in the renewable energy sector.
Prime Minister Russell Dlamini is in Taiwan, where he has invited companies to explore investment opportunities in the Southern African country.
His delegation met officials from Hengs Technology, Jhih-Guang Energy and Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City.
The Eswatini government reported that the three institutions had expressed keen interest in partnering with the country and exploring opportunities to collaborate in the development of smart, sustainable energy solutions.
Dlamini said his country was encouraged by Taiwan’s achievements in renewable energy, particularly in the deployment of advanced solar generation, battery storage systems and innovative technologies that ensure the stability and reliability of green energy.
“It is for this reason that we have come to Tainan – to learn from your success, to exchange ideas and, most importantly, to extend a cordial invitation for your company to visit the Kingdom of Eswatini and explore the investment opportunities that await,” he told a delegation.
Eswatini’s broader national objective is to exceed 1 000 megawatts of additional generation capacity in order to provide reliable baseload power for the industries it is establishing and to secure the country’s long-term energy future.
“We are confident that, working together, we can build a mutually beneficial partnership that advances sustainable development, creates shared prosperity and further strengthens the enduring friendship between Eswatini and Taiwan,” Dlamini concluded.
Eswatini and the self-declared Republic of Somaliland are the only African countries to have official relations with Taiwan, although Eswatini is the only African United Nations member that officially recognises Taiwan.
