WINDHOEK, (CAJ News) – TELECOM Namibia has extended the acting appointment of Armando Perny as Acting Chief Executive Officer.

This is for a period of six months, commencing August 1 and ending January 31, 2027.

The operator said the extension ensured continuity of leadership while the company continued to advance its strategic priorities, strengthen operational performance and deliver on its mandate to provide reliable telecommunications services to customers across Namibia.

“Since assuming the role in an acting capacity, Mr Perny has provided leadership and oversight across the business, supporting the company’s ongoing transformation initiatives and commitment to service excellence,” the telco stated.

“The board remains confident in the leadership team’s ability to drive the execution of Telecom Namibia’s strategic objectives while maintaining focus on customer experience, operational efficiency, innovation and stakeholder value.”

Telecom Namibia stated it remained committed to strengthening its network, expanding digital connectivity and supporting Namibia’s socio-economic development through world-class telecommunications and ICT services.

“Further updates regarding the leadership appointment process will be communicated as appropriate.”

Perny has been at the helm since the end of June following the resignation of Dr Stanley Shanapinda.

Shanapinda’s tenure was characterised by a sharp division between strategic modernisation and public backlash over severe service failures.

While his administration successfully pushed forward structural digital transformation, it was heavily plagued by persistent network outages and infrastructure decay, culminating in his resignation.

He has taken up the role of Executive Secretary of the Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA), based in Botswana.
