KAMPALA, (CAJ News) – AIRTEL Money and Britam Uganda have entered into a partnership envisaged to expand access to regulated insurance, investment and other inclusive financial solutions through mobile channels.

At the launch of the partnership in Kampala on Wednesday, the firms unveiled the first offering – Motor Third Party Insurance – enabling Airtel Money customers to submit vehicle details and pay securely using their Airtel Money PIN.

The partnership will be delivered under the Insurance Ku Ssimu campaign, which the companies said makes insurance more accessible by reducing barriers such as distance, paperwork and limited service hours while maintaining customer protection and regulatory standards.

The alliance between the companies is hailed as combining Britam’s expertise in insurance and asset management with Airtel Money’s nationwide digital platform and agent network, thus creating customer-focused solutions that make financial protection simpler and more convenient, while helping to close Uganda’s protection gap and strengthen financial resilience.

“By leveraging Airtel Money’s digital infrastructure, the partnership aims to deliver solutions closer to Ugandans, making financial inclusion more practical and accessible,” Richard Mwebesa, General Manager: Business Development at Britam, said at the launch.

Mercy Akello, Key Account Manager for Airtel Money Insurance, said the partnership would bring financial solutions closer to Ugandans through a platform they already use and trust.

In Uganda, Airtel Money accounts for around 45 percent of the market share, slightly behind MTN MoMo.

A subsidiary of Britam Holdings, which has a footprint across Eastern and Southern Africa, Britam Uganda is a financial services provider offering insurance, asset management and investment solutions.

Protazio Sande, a governance and insurance expert, described the partnership as a milestone.

“Achieving meaningful insurance inclusion requires insurers, telecoms, financial institutions, regulators, policymakers and development partners to work together with a shared purpose. This partnership demonstrates exactly that spirit,” he said.
