CAPE TOWN, (CAJ News) – ENERGY leaders from across the continent will gather in Cape Town from 13 to 17 April for the 20th annual African Refiners and Distributors Association (ARDA) Week, a milestone event focused on advancing Africa’s industrialisation through strategic investment in the downstream oil sector.
Held under the theme “Fuelling Africa’s Industrialisation,” ARDA Week 2026 will bring together key industry stakeholders to address one of the continent’s most pressing priorities: securing sustainable financing to expand and modernise Africa’s downstream energy infrastructure.
Central to the discussions will be the accelerated development of refining capacity, as well as the efficient distribution of cleaner, affordable fuels essential to driving industrial growth and strengthening energy security across Africa.
“The strength of the downstream oil sector is fundamental to the continent’s economic future,” said ARDA Executive Secretary Anibor Kragha.
“Without a robust and efficient downstream industry, the fuels required to support large-scale industrial development simply cannot be delivered.”
There is growing consensus among industry leaders, policymakers, and investors that Africa’s industrial ambitions depend on access to reliable, secure, and increasingly cleaner energy.
Achieving this will require significantly higher levels of investment across the downstream value chain, including refining infrastructure, fuel supply systems, and storage and distribution networks.
Kragha emphasised that ARDA continues to play a central role in guiding strategy, supporting projects, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders across Africa’s downstream energy sector.
Participants at the conference are expected to reinforce a shared position: that Africa’s industrial future must be underpinned by resilient and dependable energy systems.
The downstream sector remains a critical enabler of economic activity across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, transport and trade, mining, agriculture, and infrastructure development. Strengthening this sector is therefore essential to unlocking broader economic growth and development across the continent.
Reflecting on the significance of this year’s gathering, Kragha noted that it comes at a time of heightened global energy uncertainty.
“As we convene for the 20th edition of ARDA Week, we do so against the backdrop of a complex and evolving global energy landscape,” he said.
“While the situation remains uncertain, our members and partners are committed to navigating these challenges with resilience and determination.”
As Africa continues to position itself for long-term industrial growth, ARDA Week 2026 is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the investment strategies and policy frameworks needed to power the continent’s future.
