ADDIS ABABA, (CAJ News) – ETHIOPIAN Cargo & Logistics Services, the freight division of Ethiopian Airlines Group, has been named “Best Cargo Airline – Africa” at the 2025 Arabian Cargo Awards held on 24 November in Dubai.

This marks the third consecutive year the carrier has secured the prestigious regional honour, reinforcing its position as Africa’s dominant air freight operator.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the recognition reflects the group’s continued investment in innovation, fleet expansion and digitalisation.

“We are incredibly proud to receive this award for the third time,” he said.

“It is a testament to our employees’ commitment to delivering efficient, secure and innovative cargo transport solutions. As global supply chains evolve, Ethiopian remains committed to providing flexible, reliable and sustainable cargo services worldwide.”

Ethiopian Cargo has rapidly grown into one of the fastest-developing logistics providers globally, driven by a strategy centred on technology, network expansion and diversified cargo capabilities.

The division operates over 70 dedicated cargo flights alongside more than 145 passenger-belly services, supported by fully automated, state-of-the-art cargo terminals capable of handling 1 million tonnes annually.

Its portfolio includes specialized solutions for pharmaceuticals, horticulture, valuables, live animals, e-commerce, mail and courier services.

The airline’s cargo arm has also collected a series of industry accolades throughout 2025, including “Highly Acclaimed African Cargo Airport of the Year” and “Fastest Growing International Cargo Airline of the Year” at Air Cargo Africa, as well as “Cargo Airline of the Year (Africa)” in Dubai.

Founded in 1945, Ethiopian Airlines is Africa’s largest and most profitable carrier, operating an extensive passenger and cargo network across more than 130 international destinations.

Its cargo division is widely regarded as one of the continent’s most sophisticated, supported by a modern freighter fleet, an expanding logistics hub at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, and ongoing investment in automation and cold-chain facilities.

The airline is a member of the Star Alliance and plays a central role in connecting Africa to global trade and travel markets.

As African economies deepen their participation in global supply chains, Ethiopian Cargo’s growing influence continues to position the airline as a critical logistics bridge between Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Americas.
