LUSAKA, (CAJ News) – ZAMBIA’S ruling party has rejected reports Israel intends to use Zambia as a staging ground to launch attacks on South Africa.

The United Party for National Development (UPND) accused some opposition parties for the reports.

“These reckless allegations are not only false, but they are dangerous, irresponsible, and calculated to sow division among friendly nations. Sikwindi Situla, UPND deputy media director, said.

He said Zambia “has never and will never” allow its sovereign territory to be used as a platform for aggression against any country.

“Our nation remains firmly committed to peace, regional stability, and the principles of non-alignment and mutual respect in international relations.”

Situla called on Zambians to remain vigilant and to reject what he called propaganda being peddled by some sections of the opposition at the expense of truth.

“Citizens are encouraged to seek credible information and to stand firm against divisive narratives that serve no purpose other than to destabilise our democracy,” he said.

“We call upon all well-meaning Zambians to dismiss these malicious claims and to resist the spread of misinformation that undermines regional solidarity,” Situla added.

Israel and South Africa are political rivals over the former’s aggression against Palestine.

Earlier this month, in November, Israel president, Isaac Herzog, visited Zambia, where he held high-level talks with his counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema.

The visit follows the reopening of the Israeli embassy in Lusaka in August.

It had been closed for over 50 years.
