JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – GLOBAL cloud computing firm, OVHcloud, and ST Digital Ivory Coast, a pan-African digital transformation company, have partnered to inaugurate a sovereign data centre in the West African country.

This is hailed as a decisive step in the development of a sovereign, secure, and high-performance cloud infrastructure serving public and private organizations in the region.

The facility has been inaugurated under the sponsorship of the Ivorian Ministry of Digital Transition and Digitalisation.

Developed according to Tier III standards and operated locally, the data centre is designed to meet the digital transformation challenges of Ivorian companies and organisations.

Its objective is to offer its customers the guarantees of resilience, availability and security essential for the processing and protection of data, particularly critical data.

Sylvie Houlière Mayca, Managing Director for France, Belux, Africa and Middle East at OVHcloud, said, “Digital sovereignty is defined by having control over one’s digital destiny.”

“We are pleased to partner with ST Digital, whose project reflects our shared conviction – that of the need for a sovereign cloud, without compromising on quality, security or performance.”

The new infrastructure, led by ST Digital, is based on OVHcloud’s technology and expertise, backed by 25 years of experience.

OVHcloud operates more than 450 000 servers in 44 data centres on four continents, serving 1,6 million customers in more than 140 countries.

Anthony Same, Chief Executive Office of ST Digital, said the inauguration of the data centre in Abidjan marked a decisive step for the digital future of Ivory Coast and West Africa.

“Our alliance with OVHcloud allows us to benefit from the expertise of a global leader while preserving our strategic independence, with the ambition to offer tailored solutions where security, performance and sovereignty are non-negotiable,” Same said.

The African data centre market is experiencing significant growth driven by increased cloud adoption, artificial intelligence (AI) and digitisation.
