WINDHOEK, (CAJ News) – NAMIBIA’S telecommunications sector has expanded with Paratus officially launching as the country’s third mobile operator, challenging state-owned MTC and Telecom Namibia.
The announcement coincided with Paratus Group’s 20th anniversary celebrations. Managing Director Andrew Hall described the move as a milestone in the company’s “digital transformation.”
Over the past seven years, Paratus has invested about N\$1.4 billion (US\$80m) in fibre, microwave, internet connectivity and data centres.
At Tuesday’s launch, the company also unveiled its e-SIM service, a first for Namibia.
Information and Communication Technology Minister Emma Theofelus hailed the entry of Paratus as “a significant step in Namibia’s digital journey,” encouraging further investment in nationwide coverage and next-generation services.
Paratus, which operates in several African markets, is expected to intensify competition and accelerate digital inclusion in a country where mobile penetration exceeds 100% but affordable broadband remains a challenge.
