ABUJA, (CAJ News) – NIGERIAN authorities have successfully repatriated Dai Qisheng, a man denounced as a notorious gang leader and declared wanted in China, following a high-level international police operation.
The operation, coordinated by the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, was conducted in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria. Officials say the move demonstrates Nigeria’s growing commitment to combating transnational organised crime.
Qisheng was wanted in Guizhou Province for allegedly orchestrating and leading a series of violent organised crimes. A warrant for his arrest was issued in 2024 by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County, prompting him to flee China and seek refuge in Nigeria.
After months of surveillance, operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja tracked him down in the capital. He was arrested on August 8 and subsequently repatriated to Beijing.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, said the successful operation reaffirmed the force’s stance that Nigeria would not provide a safe haven for international fugitives.
“This operation highlights the strength of international partnerships in tackling the increasingly complex threats posed by global crime networks,” Adejobi stated.
He further quoted Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, as stressing the importance of enhancing intelligence-sharing and operational collaboration with international partners. The IGP reiterated that borders must never serve as barriers to justice.
“The arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng is a clear message to criminals worldwide that the Federal Republic of Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives,” Adejobi affirmed.
The successful handover of Qisheng not only marks a victory for Nigerian and Chinese law enforcement cooperation but also sets a precedent for future transnational security efforts. Officials believe it strengthens Nigeria’s image as a responsible international partner in the global fight against organised crime.
