Kenya Power Urges Prepaid Meter Users to Update for Uninterrupted Service

Kenya Power is advising all customers using prepaid meters to update their systems to ensure continuous power access. This crucial update, part of the ‘Update Token Meter Yako Campaign,’ aims to transition all prepaid meters and address existing challenges.

Deadline for Compliance: August 31, 2024

Customers have until August 31, 2024, to complete this update. The initiative targets prepaid meters operating on the Standard Transfer Specification (STS) – the secure method for transferring tokens.

Comprehensive Support for Customers

Kenya Power will facilitate the update process, offering assistance to ensure a smooth transition. With a target of updating 7.4 million prepaid meters, the company is committed to supporting customers through this process.

“Meters not updated by the deadline will cease to accept tokens,” warns Kenya Power’s Managing Director and CEO, Joseph Siror. “We’ve implemented robust measures to help all customers update their meters and maintain uninterrupted service.”

Update Process and Support

Upon purchasing tokens, customers will receive an SMS with instructions to update their meters. Those who do not buy tokens before the deadline will receive two codes (reset and update) to complete the update.

“This update process is entirely free of charge. No customer will incur any costs for updating their meter,” Siror emphasized. The company is focused on preventing future disruptions and improving system efficiency.

Important Reminders

  • Load any unused tokens before updating your meter, as tokens not used beforehand will become invalid.
  • Failure to update by the deadline will result in difficulties loading new token codes.

Kenya Power is dedicated to providing detailed instructions to ensure a seamless update experience and has established dedicated support teams for any issues that may arise. This update is essential for maintaining the security and efficiency of the prepaid meter system.
