DURBAN, (CAJ News) BOTTOM placed Chippa United have ended their winless season following a brace by William Twala that gave them a desperately needed 2-0 victory over AmaZulu FC in a tightly contested ABSA premiership match at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Saturday night.

The victory was the first for the Chilli Boys this season when Zimbabwean coach Norman Mapeza took over reigns from Clinton Larsen, who recently got fired for poor results.

“I’m really excited by the victory. This win will be huge morale booster for the team,” said a thrilled Mapeza.

He added: “We will take advantage of long break to fix what has to be corrected…..but credit goes to the boys.”

Twala grabbed his brace in the 61st and 85th minutes to silence the Durban home fans.

Though Chippa United still anchor the premiership log table, the Chilli Boys have now pocketed seven points from 11 games played of which they one managed a single win, four draws and six loses.

Earlier on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs beat arch-rival Orlando Pirates 3 – 2 in another scintillating premiership encounter at a packed FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

An own goal by Orlando Pirates defender Ntsikelelo Nyauza (1st) and two others from Leonardo Castro (28th) and Daniel Cardoso (84th) were enough to seal victory for Amakhosi.

The Buccaneers responded through Vincent Pule (39) and Gabadinho Mhango (59th).

Amakhosi have now opened 10-point gap between them and second placed Mamelodi Sundowns while Kaitano Tembo’s coached SuperSport United are third on the table.

Chiefs played 11 games and managed nine victories, a draw and a loss while Sundowns have played nine matches with five victories, three draws and a loss.
