dominance of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group G when they beat host nation Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 2-1 in a tightly contested encounter at Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa on Saturday.

Goals from Ronald Pfumbidzai and captain Knowledge Musona were all the Warriors of Zimbabwe needed to extend their lead with seven points from three encounters.

The victory ensured the Sunday Chidzambwa coached squad remained at the top while DRC and neighbours Congo Brazzaville are tied on second spot with four points each.

But the sad news occured when Musona was red-carded for hacking down a DRC player. However, many football analysts believed would have been a yellow card.

Muson misses the next match on Tuesday against the same opponents in Harare.

DRC pulled one back through Yannick Bolasie in the 93rd.

Whipping boys Liberia anchor the table with a point.

Elsewhere, Zimbabwe’s neighbours South Africa massacred visiting Seychelles 6-0 in a one sided tie played at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

An own goal by Seychelles defender Hoareau Nigel, plus five other strikes from Thulani Hlatshwayo, Lebogang Mothiba, Percy Tau, Dino Ndlovu and Teboho Mokoena were enough to propel Bafana Bafana to the top of Group E.

Nigeria beat Libya 4-0 in another Group E match played at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Akwa Ibom with Odion Ighalo scoring a hat trick while Samuel Kalu scored the fourth goal to seal a convincing victory.
