MAIDUGURI, (CAJ News) – SOME Boko Haram terrorists have abandoned a girl after fleeing soldiers in northeastern of Nigeria.

The Nigerian Army reported the incident followed clearance patrols at Mallam Matsari village in the Borno State, where troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole (Peace by Force) in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force encountered the Islamist militants.

“However, the terrorists fled the village on sighting the troops and a female child abandoned by the terrorists was also rescued,” said Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, the Director Army Public Relations.

Items recovered from the suspected terrorists include rifle magazines, suicide vests, hand grenade, improvised explosive devices and grinding machines.

A borehole and some food items were destroyed.

Chukwu advised members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities or movements in their areas to the law enforcement agents.

Boko Haram, which is perpetrating a violent campaign to overthrow the Nigerian government, is notorious for using girls and young women in so-called suicide bomb attacks.

The United Nations reported that children were deployed in 135 such attacks in 2017.

This represents a fivefold increase from the previous year.

It is believed the girls used in the attacks are among thousands of schoolchildren the terror group has kidnapped in the West African country.
