MAIDUGURI, (CAJ News) SUICIDE bombers have killed at least ten civilians and injured 65 others in one of the worst attacks by the Boko Haram in northeast Nigeria in 2018.

The bombing incident occurred at a garage late Wednesday in Maiduguri, the capital of the Borno State, which is the epicenter of the violence by the Islamist radicals.

Preliminary reports indicate that four female suicide bombers were responsible for the blast at the busy Muna Garage at the Mafa Dikwa road.

Members of the Emergency Response Team from the National Emergency
Management Agency (NEMA), Borno State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA) and Red Cross responded to the incident where they reported extensive damage.

The agencies facilitated the ferrying of casualties and survivors the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Abdulkadir Ibrahim, NEMA regional spokesperson, confirmed the incident.

“Further details will be provided by security agencies in due course,” he said.

The blast in Maiduguri, where soldiers shot dead two women attempting suicide bomb attacks, is the latest in a series of suicide attacks that are the hallmarks of the Boko Haram.

It is involved in a decade-long campaign to overthrow the government and establish an Islamic state in Africa’s most populous country of some 190
million people.

An estimated 100 000 civilians have been killed and more than 2 million displaced.
