Teenage girl recruited by Nigeria’s Boko Haram as suicide bomber was arrested

MAIDUGURI, (CAJ News) TROOPS have shot dead two female suicide bombers and arrested another as the trio planned terror attacks northeast of Nigeria.

The women were alleged to be on a mission to launch attacks against citizens in the Gamboru town in Borno State.

Borno is the epicenter of the Boko Haram terror group, which is infamous for using young girls and women to perpetrate suicide attacks.

Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director Public Relations Officer of the Operation Lafiya Dole (Peace by Force), told CAJ News Nigeria Bureau two of the suicide bombers had attempted to infiltrate Gamboru but were sighted by a joint patrol team of troops and civilians area shortly before entering the town.

They defied orders to unstrap their vests leading to soldiers open fire.

A third female suicide bomber was detected and intercepted.

Nwachukwu said the surviving suicide bomber was in custody pending further interrogations.

“We call on the general public to be more alert and vigilant, while going about their daily activities in their various communities to detect suspicious persons and inform the security agencies accordingly,” he said.

The use of women and girls is the hallmark of Boko Haram terror attacks in Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
