MAIDUGURI, (CAJ News) – NIGERIAN troops have killed several terrorists during battle in the restive northeastern parts of the country.

The breakthrough during the Operation Lafiya Dole (Peace by Force) was recorded in the Borno State, which is the epicentre of the insurgency by the Boko Haram Islamic militants.

Troops of 202 Battalion, Sector 1, killed three terrorists in Sabsawa in one encounter.

They recovered AK-47 rifles and improvised explosives making devices from the terrorists.

In another development, the troops deployed at Miyanti while on fighting patrol along Miyanti-Darel Jamel encountered a group of Boko Haram terrorists and neutralised four of them.

The troops recovered weapons including machetes, knives and some money from the suspects.

Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, Director Army Public Relations, confirmed the breakthroughs.

The Nigerian army is engaged in battle with the Boko Haram northeast of the country.

The sect is perpetrating a violent campaign to establish an Islamic State in the West African nation.

An estimated 10 000 people have been killed and 2 million displaced.
