Accountants select Ndlovu as SA Woman of the Year

SUNCITY, (CAJ News) – SOWETO-born Medical doctor and businesswoman, Cynthia Thandi Ndlovu, has been conferred with the 2017 African Women Charted Accountants Woman of Substance award.
The award, given at event held at Sun City in the Northwest Province honours and recognises South Africa’s most exceptional women achievers.
Recognition is given to a woman who has played a significant role in uplifting the role of black women in accounting, audit and financial professions.
The award also honours women for eroding stereotypes and breaking down barriers for the creation of opportunities for the participation of black women in key strategic areas of business and mentoring young women in professional careers in business towards leadership roles.
In addition to contributing towards social upliftment in communities, recipients are also recognised for paving way for other women to participate in key areas of business.
The award was launched in 2005.
Ndlovu (62) is an anti-apartheid liberation veteran.
She was forced to quit her BSC Degree studies at the Fort Hare at the height of the 1976 Soweto Uprising.
She spent the next couple of years in training within the ranks of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) – the African National Congress (ANC) Military Wing.
She trained in Angola.
Apart from running a successful surgery after returning to the country at the unbanning of political parties, Ndlovu went on to create the prominent Motheo Construction.
She is the immediate past president of the Black Business Council for the Built Environment (BBEBE).
At the event in Sun City, 2016 recipient and former African Union Commission chairperson, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, spoke about the continental bloc’s Agenda 2063.
She emphasised the important role women were playing in growing the economy.
