CAR militants murder more UN peace workers

KINSHASA, (CAJ News) – RAMPAGING militants have killed more United Nations peacekeepers from Morocco in the strife-torn Central African Republic(CAR).Radicals from the militant anti-Balaka group are blamed for the murder of two UN workers, which brings the toll of murdered UN’s Moroccan peacekeepers in the explosive Bangassou to three.Yesterday (Thursday) members of the Security Council expressed condolences and sympathy to the families of the peacekeepers killed, and their sympathy to the affected families as well as to Morocco and the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in CAR (Minusca).The members of the supreme UN body condemned all attacks and provocations against Minusca by armed groups.
“They were appalled by the continued attacks against United Nations peacekeepers and urged the Central African authorities to investigate this and all previous incidents without delay and bring the perpetrators to justice,” a UN spokesperson said.
The Security Council has reiterated that attacks against peacekeepers may constitute war crimes and reminded all parties of their obligations under international humanitarian law.
The Central African country is torn apart by bloody violence between Christian and Muslim extremists.
