Troops slay Boko Haram members, free nine children

Nigerian ArmyFrom AHMED OBAFEMI in Maiduguri, Nigeria MAIDUGURI, (CAJ News) – THE Nigerian Army has killed an unspecified number of suspected Boko Haram terrorists and rescued nine children said to be undergoing training to join the sect northeast of the country.The Army said among the suspects killed during the operation at Jarawa village, Kala Balge Local Government Area, Borno State late Sunday is Abu Nazir, the suspected terrorists’ Amir (commander) in the region.Brig Gen Sani Kukasheka Usman, Director Army Public Relations, said troop sof the 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade Nigerian Army of Operation Lafiya Dole (Peace by Force), in conjunction with some civilian joint task force (JTF), also recovered several weapons including an AK-47 rifle, a double barrel gun, a primed heavy improvised explosive device (IED) and three Motorcycles.“Additionally, they rescued nine abducted children undergoing training at the terrorists’ training camp in the village,” Usman said. Usman said the minors have been evacuated and are being given preliminary humanitarian assistance in preparation to handing them over to Kala Balge Internally Displaced Persons Camp Management Committee. Borno is the epicentre of the violent campaign by Boko Haram to establish an Islamic State in Nigeria.Over 20 000 civilians have been killed, 2 million displaced and thousands held captive by the terror group.
