UYO/JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – SOUTH Africa’s Bafana Bafana broke the jinx here at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom in Nigeria when they beat the Super Eagles 1-0 in front of own backyard.

Bafana’s men who did the damage for Nigeria were none other than Tokelo Rantie and Percy Tau following some in-swinger from overlapping Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Keegan Dolly.

Had midfielder-cum-striker Bongani Zungu’s efforts that on two ocassions crashed against crossbar, South Africa could have won 4-0 in this tie.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles were reduced to ordinary boys as they were shown how flawless football is played.

The victory was the first for South Africa against Nigeria in such a competitive match.

Head coach, Stuart Baxter, again proved to be the best coach in South Africa when he stepped up the coaching position to break the jinx with young but ambitious Banfana team.

Elsewhere, Libya emerged the biggest winners in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers when they massacred Seychelles 5-1 at Stade Chadly Zouiten in Egypt.

The home team, playing away from home due to security concerns produced a scintillating performance to overcome the continental lightweight Seychelles 5-1 to shoot to the top of their group.

Other nations that recorded bumper harvests were Burundi, who ruthlessly thrashed South Sudan 3-0 at Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium in Bujumbura with Madagascar winning by same scoreline bashing Sudan at their own backyard 3-1 at Al Abyed Stadium.

Surprise package Mozambique beat host nation Zambia 1-0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Zambia, Cameroon beating Morocco 1-0, Botswana suffering a narrow 1-0 home defeat to visiting Mauritania in
Francistown Stadium while Malawi defeated Comoros 1-0 at Kamazu Stadium.
