ramadaan lecture sessionFrom EMEKA OKONKWO in Abuja, Nigeria ABUJA, (CAJ News) -MUSLIM faithful in Nigeria have condemned the increasing spate of rape of babies in the West African country. The condemnation was expressed at a Ramadan Lecture session held at the State House in Abuja on Thursday. Some goodwill speakers at the event, Hajiya Najaatu Mohammed and Farida Sada Yusuf, called on the Muslim scholars to use the period of the Ramadan fast to condemn and preach against such practices they denounced as evil. They also called for more robust prosecution relating to the rape cases. The event in Abuja was held under the theme of, “The Holy Month of Ramadan: A Sober Reflection for All and Sundry.”In the last few months, infants are increasingly becoming unsafe in Nigeria, as ritualists and paedophiles defile them. Most child sexual abuses are perpetrated by close relatives or family friends. It is believed many cases of infant or child rape in Nigeria are ritualistic in nature.Dr Abdurrahman Ahmed, Chief Missioner for the Ansaruddeen Society of Nigeria, and keynote speaker at the event in Abuja said, “We are witnessing a moral and economic downturn.”
