MTN defiant amid recurring Iran lawsuit

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – MTN has kicked against a lawsuit by Turkish operator, Turkcell, at the South Gauteng High Court in South Africa.
Turkcell, which is suing for over US$4 billion, is challenging the awarding of a mobile licence to its rival in Iran, Irancell. It alleges improper conduct
MTN said recent developments in the matter were “procedural in nature and had nothing to do with the merits of the case.”
“MTN continues to believe that there is no legal merit to Turkcell’s claim and will accordingly oppose it,” MTN Group Corporate Affairs stated.
MTN Group holds a 49 percent stake in MTN Irancell.
