NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – THE African Union Commission has condemned the latest multiple attacks perpetrated by Al-Shabaab terrorists in Kenya.
The terror attacks in Mandera, on the wake of the recent Africa Day commemorations, resulted in the death of several police and security officers.
Chairperson of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives and injuries in the attacks and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.
He also expresses the AU’s solidarity with the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and people of Kenya.
Mahamat said the continued terrorist attacks on the continent are a reminder of the seriousness that terrorism continues to pose to peace, security, stability and development.
He thus reiterated the AU’s commitment to support Member States in their efforts to prevent and combat terrorism and violent extremism as well as calls for enhanced international cooperation in this fight.
The Islamic militant Al-Shabaab has been carrying out deadly attacks in Kenya in protest of the presence of troops from the East African country in civil war-torn Somalia.
The Kenyan forces are complementing Somalia in its fight against terror and the civil strife.
